A classic of course but it is not why I read it at the first place. I actually wanted to discover the universe of Kafka which is really famous, the “Kafka girls” of TikTok influenced me also haha. The whole point of Kafka is to ask ourselves if we have to over-interpret his books or to not interpret them at all. Actually, this book made me think both at the same time. I liked how the character is chained to work but at the same time the book is so slow and boring and I am confused even myself of my opinions on it. Overall I still felt like it wasn’t my cup of tea and maybe it is just not the book of Kafka that I would like the most but I was a bit disappointed honestly.

God I need this to happen to me

a sickening allegory for mental illness or a gnarly bug who shouldve been around in the late 90s to feature in a bug's life

This one hurt my feelings in so many ways. It’s a short novella yet I found myself upset over this more so than a lot of larger books I’ve read.

The sheer love and affection Gregor had toward his family and sister only for them to be essentially disgusted by him, leaving him to pass alone and in severe pain with depression… incredibly sad.
This book crosses my mind at least once a week.
Kafka is a writing genius.

Buckle up because I’m not gonna shut up over this book. Only kafka could traumatize me and make me sob over a bug

i've been wanting to read this book for a few months now, but i was waiting on finding a good paperback copy of it first. going into the book i had extremely high expectations, and kafka didn't let me down. i personally love the incorporation of the fragility of human life and how it is so possible for things to become different overnight. it also did an amazing at capturing the depth of humans rejecting those that are 'different' to them, even if they are one's family and gregor's representations was so beautifully complex. kafka was a literary genius and it's truly reflected in his works.
