A really immersive look into what it’s like to live with a chronic illness that doesn’t have a name.
Even if you don’t have one or have never had one (bless you) there are still plenty of other storylines to follow that will keep you interested.
The sub plot that I found wild and interesting was her relationship with the ghost who wrote Romeo and Juliet before Shakespeare. And I’m def gonna look into that little nugget of information because what a wild ride that was 🤣

A slow but beautiful read, it's pacing and prose seem to reflect the experience of living with chronic illness, how jilted and yet endless it can make life feel. It's remarkable for a book to take place almost exclusively in one building and yet make you feel like you've travelled hundreds of miles within its pages. I loved how the sister relationship was explored, and each character was vividly unique and creeped off the pages into my mind, where I know they'll remain for a long time.

Thank you to Putnam for this gifted book! A ghost of a 1500’s nobleman? A goldfish named Whitney Houston? An eccentric old lady? Say less!!
It was an honor to read such a delightful exploration of invisible illness, relationships, and trauma. I think it would be easy to be frustrated by a lot of loose ends not getting tied up in this book, but I think it was a beautiful way of leaving things open—it was the perfect length for this story. I can’t wait to read the next novel by Kate Weinberg and I know this is a book I’ll be able to sell at our shop. What a treat!

This is a short novel about invisible illness and how past could have an impact. I enjoyed the story, but think I would have wanted a bit more. We learn about Vita and her illness. We see her have a conversation with a ghost and make friends with her neighbors. We learn about her childhood and relationship with her sister.
I liked how the story unfolded. We learn so much in such a short amount of time. The way the story is told, I feel like it is hard to know what is real and what is part of Vita’s imagination. But I think it also makes sense given what she is going through.
Overall a quick listen and interesting.

I had a feeling early on that this would be a great read, and I found myself deliberately setting it aside to savor it for longer. I believe that the right books will come to you at the right time, and if you've been grappling with grief, unexplained illness, or hiding from yourself, do yourself a favor and pick up this book.

Tore through this one in a day. Quick read but really profound. Beautiful comments on grief, trauma, illness, connection.
