If you like cute, charming and gimmicky stories, you might well enjoy this book. There is even a flip-book style leaping sheep on the page corners for you to enjoy. That isn't the type of book I typically read. However, I made the commitment to read this one as part of a reading challenge.
A flock of sheep set out to solve the murder of their shepherd. Each anthropomorphic sheep has distinct characteristics (smartest, fastest, best memory, good sense of smell, etc.). I found this an interesting premise, and there were parts of the story that were amusing. The reader gets a sheep's-eye view of human nature, which includes many misunderstandings. This could have been developed more fully.
The plot moves along slowly until about the final quarter of the book, where the pace picks up and things get quite silly. There was little development of the human characters in the book, and throughout, I found myself not really caring what had happened to the shepherd or the other humans. The sheep, on the other hand, were quite likeable.
Before beginning the book, I thought that the story might be allegorical. There were several hidden components (eg. the townspeople were likened to a flock, and George wasn't part of the flock), but if there was a deep moral lesson, it escaped me.

Surprisingly pretty good for a book from the perspective of sheep!
I want really sure what to expect, but I loved it! So charming and really engrossing. I was reading on the subway and not only missed my stop, but missed the next one too!
I tried for a couple months to finish this and just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t find it interesting. Moving on!
I found it so enjoyable to be looking at the world from the sheep's point of view.
Oh those silly, random humans!
Lots of humor, philosphy and mystery woven together.

Meh? I got this because people I follow all raved about it and I loved the premise. The reality just didn’t hit for me - meandering story, felt dull
Crime-fighting sheep! This book is adorably full of wit and a nice stab at humankind. I like it!
