I'm just a girl and my brain can't with all that.

So my friend sold this book to me as a romance and I just don’t see that. It’s an interesting book and there are some relationships you can interpret as romantic, but they’re not good or healthy relationships. However, just reading it as a study of the Victorian era is much more fulfilling than scouring for a romance. Lord Henry is a fascinating character; he’s one of my favorite parts of the story not because he is a likable character, he is literally the worst. The story is also interesting and the ending is perfect for the story.
Although I enjoyed the book, it was only because I could put aside my dislike for Oscar Wilde and the misogynist parts of the book. The writing is beautiful, but every once and a while the fact that pretty much every woman character is an idiot or hated kinda just hit me in the face. It was also difficult to read about a young beautiful boy with my understanding of Oscar Wilde’s history.

This book was shocking, petrifying, and carried weight beyond theme of vanity. Reading this was like the prophecy of womanhood ricocheting back at me

(It was a 220 page homoerotic friendship)
