Terrific read. Having just re-read Murder on the Orient Express, this was an excellent homage. Hazel and Daisy are riding the Orient Express with Hazel's father when a murder occurs, in Yugoslavia - explicit hat-tip to Agatha Christie - and the train is stopped by a bomb placed further up the tracks (not snow). In the absence of a Poirot, the grown-up investigation is handled extremely badly (who asks for cabins to be left unlocked and leaves them unguarded so that passengers can slip into other rooms to plant clues?!), leaving room for our heroines to do some very pretty feats of deduction, against the orders of Hazel's father. Besides the murder, there are a couple more suspicious cases going on simultaneously and the girls have a hand in them all. Quite a lot about racism, especially in mid-1930s Europe (Hazel is very conscious of this but rather blind to her own classist attitudes, which is very believable).
