I really enjoyed the first two but this one was just frustrating. All adults in this book are incompetent and most of them rude, which was not fun to read.

Hoping I’ll like book four better!

another fun outing of the detective society, although i continue to be disgruntled by the actual mystery part of these books. although agatha christie's murder on the orient express is an obvious parallel here (it gets a shout-out in the book, as it should), the plotting is in fact more indebted to some of her other mysteries, most notably
hercule poirot's christmas
. i figured out whodunnit almost immediately as a result (though even those who aren't familiar with christie will probably be able to figure it out pretty easily, too), and then spent most of the book bored and frustrated with the transparency of the plot.

thankfully there are other things to appreciate aside from the mystery (we get to meet hazel's father, for one!), and i think middle-grade readers will continue to love the series. i know it's almost too much to hope for but i think it'd be wonderful if robin stevens ended up becoming the next enid blyton, at least with her publishing record - the world needs more of these books, and now!

The third installment in the Wells and Wong Mystery series sees Hazel and Daisy on holidays with Hazel’s dad, traveling across Europe on the Orient Express. In a wonderful tribute to Agatha Christie, Stevens has written a clever locked-room mystery, complete with jewel theft, murder, espionage and international spy rings. With help from a few of the other passengers, Hazel and Daisy solve the crime, before the adults and authorities can fit all the pieces together. Love this series, looking forward to the next adventure back at Deepdean School.

Jolly good fun with a murder on the Orient Express.
A good introduction to locked room mysteries for kids.

In general I love this series, and in particular this one -- a locked room mystery set on the Orient Express with references to the Christie novel -- is great.

Even better than the previous two. Stevens is going from strength to strength and I hope she continues to subtly touch upon the themes and history which is so cleverly running beneath the main storyline. Also, I wouldn't mind a little trip to the Pinkertons too!

Best one of the series yet, I think, and I truly adored the previous two. The secondary characters were an absolute delight (Hazel's father is wonderful, and I have a special affection for Il Mysterioso) and made for a fun and unique set of suspects. Hazel is really growing into her own, and it's wonderful to see it happen. Looking forward to the next one!
