Normally apocalypse books feel either too abstract or unrealistic to haunt me. This however is truly the exception. When I read the authors descriptions of the climate crisis in Maine I knew he had to be from there. Brings up so many of our current conversations around accountability, economic greenwashing, constructed and imagined finish lines and even generational trauma. I will be recommending this one for a time yet. It is very topical to the right now so I am curious to see how this book feels different in 5-10 years

i really liked the premise for the plot and characters but the execution felt lacking. i think i struggled a lot with the writing style. the lack of quotations was both annoying and confusing, and the awkwardly short and simple sentences especially in larch’s pov became grating to read very quickly. unfortunately overall i think i was just a bit disappointed considering how excited i was about the premise.

Absolutely loved this book and I’m recommending it to everyone I know! Captures fears about climate change without acting like things will be okay, and inspires active resistance and reflection on what we want for the next generation

Honestly, too depressing. May revisit in the future, but I need a little more escapism in my post apocalyptic stories, instead of grim reality.
The writing was good; it just wasn't for me. Some of the topics discussed were just too much. It's about climate change, economic collapse, and political upheaval. It started feeling oppressive and anxiety-inducing, so I just had to stop reading.
