Gonna have to start a running list of books that I read not knowing that Maine is one of the settings.

I read this in like a day and a half while I was sick. It floored me. I cried! Highly recommend.

A remarkably bland and average book. The premise is an interesting take on the climate change genre, but I feel it was executed poorly.

I didn’t feel connected with any of the characters and near the end, I found I wasn’t particularly invested in the outcome of the story.

I will also always deduct stars from books that stray from traditional dialogue conventions. I understand that the omission of quotation marks is a stylistic choice, but to me it results in writing that is equal parts messy/meandering/frustrating.

I'm... confused by this book. Not by the story - the plot makes sense, the worldbuilding is complete. I just don't know why the author chose the two POV characters he did. Instead of getting two opposing viewpoints of his world, we get two characters (a father and daughter) who think relatively the same about things - they're both considered "complacent" and used to the world post-Crisis as it is. We only hear from the mother secondhand, when she's got the most interesting perspective, and would've been a nice counterpoint to either the father OR the daughter as a fellow main character.

But that's if we needed dual POVs at all, which I'm not convinced we did - I think this book could've been told entirely from the father's POV and gotten us all the backstory we needed.

I think this book had big aspirations, but was fundamentally confusing in its execution. This dual-POV just didn't feel like the right method.
