What's here is very interesting and generally well written and did a good job of making me want to keep turning the page. My only criticism is the editing; it really shows that the book was unfinished. Sections are prefixed with the fact rather than attempting to edit things so that they flow. The Kindle version also has plenty of typographical and typesetting errors. These are far from deal-breakers though and it's ultimately a very good read if you're a fan of the true crime genre.

i cant help but think how much better this book would have been if Michelle McNamara would have been able to finish it

Even knowing that Golden State Killer was caught, this book terrified me from beginning to end.

If I'm being honest, knowing that the Golden State Killer had been caught made this book all the more interesting since I could see that the police was NOWHERE near identifying him.

I only wish McNamara could have lived to see it.

As fascinating as it is heartbreaking, I loved this book. Michelle McNamara is an amazing writer and I became just as, if not more fascinated with her as I did with the story of The Golden State Killer. She was extremely honest about herself and her obsession and I found that refreshing. This is the perfect read for anyone who loves true crime and really, who doesn't?

Originally I watched I’ll Be Gone in the Dark on HBO and after realizing it was based off a book, I gave it a try.
This was my second time reading it and I still think Michelle did a great job laying out everything the GSK did. She does go back and forth a lot, and I found myself going back to pages to clarify information, but I was fully invested.

a very gripping read, as much about the case as the woman obsessed by it.
it gave me terrible nightmares.
