✨ The Title/Cover Draw:
Another gorgeous cover and I love how it fits with the first. I actually got approved for this one and then read the first in preparation.

this book wasn’t as good as the first :(( i was annoyed by how many of the characters acted in this installment, especially fable, and i felt like the characterization that had been built up in the last book was thrown to the wayside to make the plot work. i enjoyed the last ~15% of the book, but other than that, i can’t say this was anything above average.

A beautiful ending for this duology (though I'm glad there are other books set in this world!).
I will be the first to admit this review may be slightly inflated because of my current love for pirates and also my absolute adoration of Adrienne Young's writing style. But I'm standing by this!

I am obsessed with Fable as a main character. She is competent, but aware of her shortcomings. She is willing to sacrifice herself for those she loves, but is also constantly trying to think several steps ahead to avoid having to sacrifice herself. Her relationship with West is such a good give and take. They're both stubborn and willing to give everything up for the other, they drive each other a little bit crazy at times, but they know the other means well. They're unwilling to be angry at each other for things they know they themselves would do. They help each other see a way out of the world they're trapped in. Overall, I loved the dynamic.

I loved that Young wasn't afraid to make some tension between the crew in this book. While I loved the comradery and family aspects of the crew in Fable, I think adding this tension between them in Namesake really paid off! Holland was such a good addition to this world and really amped up all the drama happening! I cannot wait to learn more about her and her relationship with Isolde in the Saint prequel, because there are definitely some things missing from the past in her stories to Fable. I also really enjoyed the role that Clove played in this book!

I absolutely LOVED how the final meeting with the guild played out!
I love that Fable had her own plan with the fake gems that she commissioned, and she was willing to play all her cards even though she wasn't sure it would be enough to sway the guild. but then Saint striding in, also throwing the accusation of murdering Zola at her feet, and then CLAIMING FABLE AS HIS DAUGHTER IN FRONT OF EVERYTHING. I nearly passed away. I just truly don't think I could have asked for a better ending. It doesn't make up for all the questionable decisions Saint made as a father, but both Fable and Saint are so morally grey that I think it's a perfect way to end the series (and lays the groundwork for maybe rebuilding their relationship in the future)

Overall, I loved this duology and can't wait to read all the additional books in this world!
