Rating: 2.75, maybe 3 stars?

I'm really struggling to rate this one. It is definitely one that I feel is 'good' but not for me/one of my favorites.

The plot is interesting, and the audio itself is great! I also thought that the writing was good, too. The main character is well-developed and the pacing is quick, which is my preference! I would definitely be willing to look into the author's other books to give them a shot.

What I'm struggling with is the 'predictability.' Throughout the whole story, the plot and suspense is intriguing, but everything that you think is going on, all of the questions you have and think you know the answers to, is exactly what IS happening. The narrator herself knows it, too; she has the same questions you have, and comes to the same conclusion[s] you (probably) do.

That said, the writing was still well done, the audio production/narration was great, and the book still ended with a substantial message/theme. That's why I'm struggling to rate it and am leaning towards just evaluating it as, 'this is definitely for a lot of people, it's just not for me.' I think that maybe I'm just someone who prefers twists in my thrillers/mysteries.

I would still recommend this, though! Particularly for those who don't mind not having a big twist and are happy with an ending that wraps up questions and has a message.

I love listening to Lucinda Berry’s books, they are so good! Being a mother myself this book really got to me. My anxiety was so high listening to this one. 

SPOILERS:

The moment she found out her son went to the same school as Chloe my jaw was on the floor. THEN when Chloe said that she went to a certain party and it’s a party her son was at had me so nervous. Felicia trying to help Chloe but also wondering if her son could possibly be involved at all had my heart hurting for her so much. I’m not kidding when I tell you the last part of this book had me sick to my stomach. Lucinda Berry’s books always make the reader feel uncomfortable with the topics she writes about.

When Felicia asked Hunter (her son) about the video and how it was on the news he had no idea why it would even be a big deal 🤦🏻‍♀️

 

I hoped so bad that Hunter was Chloe’s crush and not one of the boys who did that to her.

 

It was torture waiting for Chloe to say who all the boys were.

Felicia had found panties in her son’s room. She thought it was his ex girlfriends. When Chloe was getting questioned about what happened she said one of them had taken her panties. Felicia ran home and not only found those panties in her son’s room but a bunch of other girls panties. My heart dropped. Felicia questioned Hunter and he acted like they were some other girls and that it wasn’t a big deal. It’s really a mind fuck listening to this book.

Felicia told police about how she thinks Hunter had something to do with Chloe’s assault. That had to be so hard to do being that he is her son.

They ended up being Chloe’s underwear and they found Hunter’s DNA and other boys too.

His DNA was also found in past cases.

First degree sexual assault is what they were going to get Hunter on.

This book is so much like Saving Noah. I had the same sick feeling while listening to it.

Felicia said she couldn’t believe it was her son but at the end of the day they are always someone’s son. That hit 😭 all monsters have a mother.

Felicia and the sheriff went to get Hunter at the house and take him back to the station to answer questions. He said he didn’t want to go and Stan (sheriff) grabbed Hunter and hauled him in. He assumed his mother would have his back and get him out of trouble. He thought he could get away with anything.

6 months later:

Felicia is packed up and moving. The house she shared with her son is now empty. She talks about finding out exactly what her son did to these girls. He would seek them out online. Hunter was the main guy in all of these assaults. He even wrote about what he wanted to do to other girls. They found him to be mentally ill.

I couldn’t help but think if Felicia never told on Hunter he would have continued doing that to other girls.
