Audiobook. The reason it got two stars from me is that it only took 2 hours to get through it. It was very reminiscent of Defending Jacob. It was just ok.

I chose this audio book because it was short. I was surprised how much I liked it. I binged the whole thing in one evening.

📞 This was written as an audio-only story and I adored AJ Cook as the narrator! It was perfect at 1.75x speed.
📞 It raises a lot of interesting questions and horrifying thoughts about parenthood, teen assault, etc.—a theme I continue to notice in Berry’s work. It reminded me a lot of her book Saving Noah, but also has parallels to The Perfect Child with the parenthood theme.
📞 Lucinda is a queen at making you feel uncomfortable with the psychological thriller details and twists. However, this story—at the risk of giving a slight spoiler—did not have a twist! After about the halfway point it became more and more predictable and there was no twist and I had some unanswered questions.
📞 I think if it had been written a bit longer (it’s only 4 hours at 1x speed) the epilogue would’ve made more sense, or there could have been room for a good twist & resolution.
If you’re a parent, you might be horrified by this and the implications presented. I’m not a parent and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Like I mentioned, AJ Cook did a wonderful job and I hope she narrates more thriller books in the near future!
