I listened to this on audio and it is so well done. I used to watch Criminal Minds with my husband and always said I like A.J's voice. Her and Tessa do an excellent job with the narration.

This is a short, fast story that I would encourage a reader to go into blind, provided they don't have any triggers. The tension starts at the very beginning and really never lets up.

The "twist" at the end is admittedly not really a twist but I've noticed that with a few of the books I have read by Lucinda Berry. The story is meant to make you think. To make you wonder how you would behave if you were in this very situation and she achieves that spectacularly.

In true Lucinda fashion, this book explores some uncomfortable, distressing topics and leaves you feeling unsure how you would cope if you were put in the same situation. The plot was strong and I was sucked in immediately. However, this was a bit too predictable to me and I feel like too much was uncovered too quickly. I would have preferred for this to have be longer so we could have gotten more character development and more suspense building.

calling this a “thriller” is quite the reach. it’s just depressing as hell. there’s no twist or tension just graphic descriptions of sexual assault. def check the tigger warnings!!!!

This is my second book by Lucinda Berry, and she has officially cemented herself as one of my go-to thriller authors. From the very beginning, One of Our Own had me hooked, pulling me deeper into its dark and unsettling world. Even though I had a feeling about how it was going to end, it still gave me goosebumps. That lingering sense of dread didn’t take away from the experience—it only made the journey more intense.

The audiobook narration was excellent, bringing the characters and their emotions to life in a way that made the tension even more palpable. The themes of trauma, trust, and the fragility of family relationships were woven seamlessly into the plot, making for a thought-provoking and chilling listen. This book makes you think differently as a parent—it forces you to consider the unimaginable and question how you would react in the same situation.

Will I recommend this book? Hell yeah! It’s so well-written, deeply unsettling, and impossible to put down. If you love thrillers that get under your skin and keep you thinking long after they’re over, One of Our Own is a must-listen.
