Drawings are intriguing.  Words are hit or miss.  Good spooky fun.  Mentions of the devil and Ghosts, so not for little kids.

I really wanted to like this little book of poetry, but I just didn't. The poems sometimes seemed forced, and I grew up with Edward Gorey drawings (Amphigorey et al) and the art was just, meh. Cute enough for what it is, I shall be passing it on.

I can definitely see why this book is seen as controversial because it does have a lot of dark, and violent meanings throughout it. However, I think that it would be a fun and interesting book to share with older elementary school students (4th-5th graders) during the month of October.

Macabre and dark, Halloween ABC is a welcome change of pace from tamer seasonal children's fare. Although apparently aimed at an older audience, my 2nd-grader appreciated the creepy verses and weird illustrations.
