This one hit all of my buttons, realistic fiction mixed with magical realism (yes, I am pretty sure that was a redundancy) along with references to fairy tales and mythology. And then add in a lot of reference to a Maurice Sendak book. Along with all of that, add simple elegant writing and very surprising and disturbing events. Hooked!

This book hits you on so many levels. It makes you think about racial issues, parenthood, parenthood and technology, relationships, trust. The list can go on and on. The books I love are not for everyone, but if you know you like what I do, you should definitely read it! Maybe starting today so I can talk to you about it!

I LOVED this book. But I don't want to give anything away. You're better off going in not knowing what to expect. Because much of it is about the unexpected! Sit back and read and you won't be able to put it down.

I like the story. The characters made some stupid choices, I think, throughout the book. I’m good with the (kinda abrupt and improbable) ending, BUT how are they going to untangle everything legally? You can’t just go to the authorities and say, “Everything’s fine now. We’re going to go about our lives, just clean the records up for us.”

I realize it’s a work of fiction, and the story is how the author wrote it. I just have questions.

You just never know what’s really out there... this book tells many stories and all are worth the read for the writing, the characters, and the interwoven horrors of the world...

This one was a definite 3.5 for me. I loved the premise but it was sort of a long slow build up - which isn't necessarily bad if you're prepared for it. The review about it starting like Love Actually, morphing into Rosemary's Baby, and ending as Jurassic Park was what kept me going during some of the slowest bits - and the review was pretty accurate. I'm one of those people who needs to know what happens in the end - even if getting there is sometimes a slog. In this case, I'd say it was worth it!

I thought it was really well-written. I loved the first half of the book. But I had to power thru the 2nd half because the horror/adventure/Grimm’s fairytail turn it took wasn’t for me. I don’t particularly like these genres and this didn’t sway me. After such vivid characters and a story that felt so based in reality, especially having grown up in Queens, I couldn’t believe the events that followed. Glad I tried something different tho. Was a NYPL Book of the Day.

A story full of stories. Well written and full of an adventure. The weaving of different parental stories and relationships was embedded in the lore told. It felt drawn out and lengthy at times but the foundation of the story was well done.

Way too boring, and 150 pages in, I still have no idea what this book is about. And almost all those pages were, "six months passed, and during that time, this happened and this happened and this happened." Literally textbook telling instead of showing. This is a big ol' DNF. I'm not sad.
