I have to say, I’m not much for chick lit/rom-com books. I do like them from time to time, a light read to cleanse the reading palate, but overall, I feel many are predictable and overly long and drawn out. But I have to say, this is my favorite rom-com this year! This one left me pleasantly surprised. Although somewhat predictable in parts, there were many pieces that left me surprised and turning the pages quickly. It made me reminisce - I traveled to Italy 20 years ago, so the Italy mentions took me back... don’t you love it when a book takes you to another place, a place so near and dear to your heart? From Paris, the Eiffel Tower, La Vie En Rose (I had to play the song as it was mentioned in the book, it really took me there - I felt like I was dancing on the Eiffel Tower with Chelsea and her man!) to the rolling green of Ireland, and to the vineyards of Italy, this book took me away. I really lost myself in it and read it rather quickly. It was a great escape and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a feel good book with European vibes. ❤️

This novel balances usual rom com shenanigans with the heaviness of cancer and death. The potato conversation scene made me laugh out loud. 3 stars bc arguments thrown in during the last few chapters always annoy me and this one was particularly a reach

I loved it, great characters. Laughed and cried along the journey.

I really wanted to like Paris is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlay. Sure, the premise of taking an indefinite European vacation to find onesself is a bit hokey, but I really thought I would like the book more.

Chelsea, the main character, is absolutely insufferable for most of the book. She is selfish and immature, even in her grief. Jason, while less aggravating, is also not a character I could connect to. His controlling nature is also super grating in response to a main character that is supposedly uber independent.

The places the main characters visit are the stars of the novel, as are the supporting characters. The supporting characters feels far more dimensional, interesting, and easy to connect to.

I can't say I'd recommend this one.
