From the inviting cover to the tempting title, PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA by Jenn McKinlay is a sweet, feel-good romance! While cozy mysteries are my typical genre, I was drawn to this book because I’m a longtime fan of the author and she did not disappoint. As the story unfolded, I found it impossible to put the book down. The delightful settings of rural Ireland, romantic Paris, and a lush vineyard (complete with castle) in Italy, were effectively used as backdrops to Chelsea Martin finding her way out of a long bout of grief following her mother’s death. For readers who have experienced the loss of a beloved family member, the emotional content of the book is poignant and made me feel connected to the protagonist. Ms. McKinlay, known for her wicked sense of humor in her other series, brings some humor to this book to keep it lighthearted. She expertly balances the romance, the grief, and the humor into a well-crafted tale that left a huge smile on my face!

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for providing an advance copy.

I thought this was really cute. I wish the ending hadn’t felt so abrupt, but overall it was fun. I loved the story visiting places that I’ve been like Boston, Ireland, and Paris.

The language was clean, as far as I can remember. There is an open-door romance scene at 95% (which I think was chapter 25). It felt unnecessary to the story… but other than that, it was a clean story.
Would recommend to a friend.

This book deserves more than 5 stars!!

Jenn McKinlay lays the groundwork for a hilarious and romantic novel. Chelsea is not a perfect person she has grief in her past that she can’t get past, so she goes on an adventure to find who she once was.

We flit from Boston to Ireland then off to France and Italy. Each country brings something unique to Chelsea, and I can say it has been quite a while since I have laughed so hard while reading a book.

I laughed from the very beginning, when Chelsea has the sex talk with her middle aged father in the middle of a bridal shop to Annabelle putting a box of condoms in her suitcase, to a brawl in front of a Paris Cafe and a half naked man in front of a Castle in Italy.

Jenn McKinlay writes a heart felt novel that speaks to finding your past self and realizing that who you are is who you’re meant to be!

This book was exactly what I needed. Chelsea has lost her happiness in life and all she can breathe is work. She has been going through a tough time since her mother passed away. Then she found out her dad is remarrying. She is not taking the news well. Her sister gave her the brilliant idea to go back to when she was her happiest. That was when she traveled abroad. Chelsea decides to take a leave of absence and rediscover her happiness. By going back to where it all began. This book was so cute and it just made me happy the whole time.
