he Chanteuse From Cape Town by John Constable This is the 1st book in the Sol Nemo Murder mystery series. This story is set in South Africa and a woman has been kidnapped this woman is related to somebody home Sol cares about very much. I love Sol character and how this book is in a 1st person narrative its fresh and keeps you on your toes. To begin with, the writing style is very interesting; it is first-person narrated in a somewhat formal voice and is very evocative of a 1950s noir detective story; readers can almost picture the film noir private investigator lead character talking out of the corner of his mouth, wearing a crinkled trench coat with a cigarette dangling as he fights bad guys. This story takes place in the present day and is about the kidnapping of a wealthy wife and the efforts of a dedicated PI, Sol Nemo, who is a family friend and struggles to solve the crime and its subsequent events. The novel is set in South Africa, specifically in and around Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. The setting is excellent - South Africa, with its terrible history of racial segregation, brutality, and crime, is also breathtakingly beautiful. The setting is ideal for exploring themes such as rich vs. poor, good vs. evil, and, of course, the ever-present impact civilization has on race. Our protagonist, Sol Nemo, is also mixed race, and the impact on his character development is best described in his own words. #litearlypr #crime #noir #capetown #southafrica #crimeseries
