Be prepared to go through all the feels with this book. Grab a few tissues. I promise this book will leave you want to love all over again, feel broken, and cry your heart out.
Jackie is in love with Ryan and vice versa. They met in college and had fun. Jackie's life got turned upset down. Ryan and Jackie made a pack, but the time they were 30 they would get married. As much as Ryan tried, Jackie pushed him away. As Jackie says, her heart was dead. Her life was crazy. Ryan tired to get over Jackie. He lived his life, but no matter what it always came back to Jackie. Can they both overcome their life choices and changes to see they are perfect for each other.

description

"You are...everything. Please let me love you. Please."

The first book I read by these authors was Missed Connection, which was one of my favorite reads of last year. So I was pretty excited to get my hands on this book. I enjoy friends-to-lovers romances and from what I already had read from these authors my expectations were high. Unfortunately this book did not meet that expectations. There were things I really liked, I enjoyed reading about Jackie and Ryan's unconventional friendship. I really loved it, and I wish we got to see more of that. It felt like a lot of parts were missing from the story, which made it really hard for me to connect with the characters and the story. Some REALLY heartbreaking things happened in this book, and I should've been prepared but I wasn't. However my reaction to it wasn't as extreme as it would've been if I was all in.

"If we're both single when you turn thirty, if we haven't met anyone else, then we'll marry each other."

The time that Ryan and Jackie were apart was really long, however I think it was good for them to grow as individuals and to figure out what they really wanted from life. However this was a big part of the story and them not being in contact got old real fast. The Marriage Pact was an okay read for me. I loved the writing and the characters, even though Jackie sometimes annoyed me with her pushing Ryan away, she needed to heal from all the heartbreaking events in her life. I do love that the story was based on a viral Reddit post, I am on Reddit daily and will now search for that post. Just because this book didn't meet my expectations, doesn't mean it won't meet yours. I still recommend this book to readers who love heartbreaking friend-to-lovers stories.

This book! I absolutely love reading from new-to-me authors. The Marriage Pact is just that, a marriage pact between best friends. But it's SO. MUCH. MORE.

We're met with Ryan talking to a legion of college students in what we assume is present-day. I'll leave out what he's talking about as that would be a spoiler. Ryan is basically your dream hero. He's a football player, sexy, smart and absolutely ADORES Jackie.

Jackie has had a very tough start in life. She lost her mom at a young age and never really grieved because she took that role and raised her little sisters as well as took care of her father and family farm. College was an escape for her and because of that, she never could give Ryan what he wanted. He wanted love, she wanted fun.

The Marriage Pact takes place over a decade and then some. Love, loss and tragedy are all felt in this epic story. It left me completely gutted but also hopeful and I really think it's a must-read. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? It's written in third person POV and my brain doesn't function properly while reading that way.

*Disclaimer: If you absolutely NEED an HEA, move on. This story was epic and tragic and lovely, but it may also shatter your soul.
