The intense feeling of dread that hooked me from the beginning and only grew stronger after finishing.  So well written, dark,  atmospheric, and gruesome.   Loved it.

This book was something else…I don’t know what I was going into this blind…but it was a lot. Not so much gruesome wise, just so much…hate.

Don’t get me wrong, this book was entertaining, at times, a bit unbearable, but the writing was good. It kept me engaged and of course, it’s a quick read.

I thought I was working up to some big ending, but it was very anticlimactic for me. I just needed more, especially from the way people loved this book.

It’s gross at times, nothing too over the top. Some taboo topics and a lot of violence but other than that, it wasn’t very scary or anything.

I think this can be a hit or a miss for some people. It was right in the middle for me.

I liked this book, but the story could not have moved along without a Black man being used as a plot device in a way that was extremely lazy and unrealistic. A little bit of "magical negro" in there. I think Kristopher could have come up with something that fleshed out the characters and story more, instead of flattening them. It was lazy enough that it brought me out of a story that initially sucked me in so deeply. Part of thr beauty of extreme horror is that its lack of boundaries allows stories to explore things nothing else will - the brutal realism of humanity's depravity, for instance. I think Kristopher did a great job at that up until one point, which deviated so strongly from the tone and themes of the story, it really drew attention to how little he thought about this character. And then just kind of kept doing that.
