This book was a lot.
Morally gray characters. Dark concepts.
But it was amazingly written. The pacing could not have been better. The characters had depth and weren’t overly predictable. There are so many layers to the plot that unfold, and it is told through multiple povs that allow you to slowly piece together the big picture.
The structure and writing style remind me of the throne of glass series. Overall, very well written.

Author doesn't understand women and cannot write one that goes beyond the complexity of being a virgin or a whore.

Loved the plot, but the male gaze in this book made me feel so objectified.

At first, I was slowly reading this because it's epic fantasy and there were so many names and places to absorb, then slowly the story wove together and it was amazing. Brent Weeks is a master at writing intricate plots and the last 150 pages were the most jaw-dropping, plot twisty, thing I've ever read. Trust me when I say it's worth it, 100% worth it, just give it time to get where it's going.
