The ending of this book made me want to scream and throw a colossal, five-year old temper tantrum because one of my favorite characters’ fate is at this moment in question! Seriously?! CLIFF HANGER MUCH?!!!!!
If I had to wait extended periods of time for the next installment of this book (which thankfully it has already been published, I would only have to wait as long as it takes to get it from the library) I would go absolutely freaking CRAZY. MacKayla “Mac” Lane was forced to grow up exceedingly fast when her older sister was brutally murdered while studying abroad in Dublin. Mac is a stereotypical ditzy southern belle and is suddenly thrown into the world of Celtic mythology, Seelie and Unseelie and the war between the light and dark.
This series in and of itself has everything: bad faeries, druids, dark hallows, evil plots, mystery, unfulfilled sexual desires, men with indeterminate scruples. The cliffhangers that Karen Marie Moning has created in this series are fantastic and something I have grown to expect from her writing and this book has proved a fantastic example of that. I have quickly fallen in love with this series after reading the first book last year, now I am on the third book of the series and am looking forward to reading the remaining five to see what comes of Mac and the world as we know it.
My favorites from this book:
-Christian MacKelter – who doesn’t love a sexy, druid Scotsman? I mean really?! Brogue and all…drool.
-the MacHalo – This seriously made me giggle, but it is seriously one of the best inventions ever for Mac to deal with the darkness that isn’t entirely your average darkness. That, and it made Barrons laugh, which prompted a total fangirl squee from me when I read that scene.
-V’lane – death-by-sex fae, who took the opportunity to dress Mac in a sleazy bikini (even going so far as to pull out the gold lamiae).
-More insight into the Lord Master who is given an actual name in this book
-Clues as to what/who exactly Jericho Barrons actually is which makes me giddy with anticipation because I want to know what he is – desperately.
If you have thought about starting this series and find yourself on the fence, I quickly urge you to scamper over the fence and start working on reading it!

Mac is getting a lil on my nerves. And so is basically everyone else. But that ending...
I think I'm bingeing the other two now.

They get better as they go along. Startling and interesting and full of more insight and ideas.
5/5 flying pink cake stars!
This series just keeps getting better and better. I really felt for Mac. She's all alone in this book and can't trust anyone - which becomes even worse and worse. A lot of her hopes are squashed and she once again has to fend for herself in the big bad world - all alone.
I hated Rowena even more in this book and sometimes wanted to slap her. I was okay with Dani, thought I must admit I'm not a huge fan of her.

I still love Jericho Z Barrons and he gets more intriguing every book. Still an ass, but a very interesting and hot one.

V'lane shows up in this book as well. Still not sure what to think of him, but he is interesting enough.
I'm not sure what else to say... the series is great. The writing is great and I love the world building that Karen Marie Moning has implemented in this story. You really should read this series, but by the time you've reached this book, you're probably as hooked as the rest of us already!
I thought the ending was quite shocking and I'm glad I could move on to the next book immediately!

"At home in Ashford, I have a great group of friends. I don't have a single one in Dublin. The one place I thought I might make friends was at the abbey, among my own kind. Now thanks to Rowena, that opportunity was closed to me"

"Then Barrons said softly, "You've mistaken me for someone else. Do not wait on me, Ms Lane. Do not construct your world around mine. I'm not that man". "screw you, Barrons." "I'm not that man either."

"I'm preparing to give you the way to summon me, human. Stand still for it."
Ä kiss? Oh, please! I'm not that -"
"My name on your toungue. I cannot teach you to say it. Humans do not possess the ability to form such sounds. But I can give it you. With my mouth, I can place it on your tongue."

We learned a lot more about the Fae this time around and Mac has some more training to fight them. Barrons remains as elusive as ever and despite their best efforts the walls between the worlds fold at the end of the book leaving the fae to take over this world. Mac has a confrontation with the Lord Master and it doesn't look good for her as the book ends. The cliffhanger leaves you wanting the next book right there so you don't have to wait too long to find out what happens.
Well, I thought this was the last book in the series, but I was wrong. The story is pretty complex and unique. At least Moning is a decent, if light, writer. There are still too many questions in the plot that have not been resolved, and the longer the series gets the more trouble I have keeping it straight. Let's just say I didn't like this book enough to buy it, I checked it out from the library.
I am put off by this new trend of romance series writers (particularly various paranormal series) to break the fourth wall, making their characters seem as if they are interacting in the real world. Mostly by using the internet to set up fake business/personal domains of characters from the novels. I don't have the energy for this, and it seems like more of a marketing ploy that a real fan-driven community. It irritates me, just like artificial cliffhangers that try to drive you to read/buy the next book. Does anyone write romance novels anymore without a giant family tree, plotting the next several books? You can practically see the dollar signs in the publisher's eyes when they get there hands on a fairly entertaining novel/plot. The greed is so transparent. And we, the reader, get caught up in it, thinking maybe the next novel will be better...
