Two best friend, connected by the same birthday one of them is dead the other one killed her. Or did she? In both POVs you find out the story that lead to her death. It’s not every day a dead girl can tell her side of a story. But both of them can still lie about the events that happened.
Because of annotating and having a very important exam season it took me waaay longer to read this than it normally would have.
This one was a journey. I loved the flipping mechanics of this novel and also the two POVs. I thought if it would not be executed well it could get boring reading the same story twice but each side had something unique and interesting about it.
And even after reading both sides and uncovering all the lies, truth and secrets both of them had the ending still was a surprise!!

The book is written from two different POVs, in a turn-over style. Definitely a fun new thing for me to try. I started with Syl's POV, which was interesting and well written. Then I switched to Viola's POV and it was as though it was written by a completely different person. There were quite a few spelling mistakes, sentences that went nowhere, and even a whole part that was out of order. Viola blaming Syl for her mother having an affair with her dad, and then only finding out pages later that her dad supposedly had an affair with Syl's mom . If I had started with Viola's POV I don't know if I would have been able to finish the book. For an eighth edition, this book is in desperate need of a proper edit.
Aside from that, I mostly enjoyed the story; I enjoyed that you didn't know who to trust, but in the end it was a gimmick more than a proper good story. Both characters were unlovable and while some of it could be chalked up to their past experiences, they had very few redeeming qualities, making it hard to care about either one of them. At the end, I was reading more to find out the truth than because I enjoyed the book.
Considering I got this book as a Christmas present, I am disappointed in the overall execution of the story.

My reaction to this book in 1 emoji: 😯
Honestly, I loved this book. First things first, the concept of having to flip the book over to get both girl's povs is very cool, and I really liked that. Second, I loved the story of this book, I did connect more to Syl than I did to Viola, but that might be because I read Syl's pov first. The plottwists in this book are incredible. Yes, you already know the plottwists when you read your second pov, but that didn't bother me at all. What's between the black pages in the middle of the book is something unpredictable and a very good plottwist.
Would recommend reading this one!!

It was really good up until the ending. The ending isn't bad per day, I knew both girls were lying about what actually happened, but it felt so strange and didn't really fit for me.
Overall, I did really enjoy this and I'm glad I found this book on Tiktok.
