I really wanted to like this and I almost did. Maybe the audio is what ruined my experience. The narrator is really good at sounding the way the characters might. But that also makes it really hard for me to understand a lot of the time. I had to keep going back to understand what was said. If it was more than a few hours, I probably would have DNFed it. I can see why people might love it though. Strong silent type with super talkative naive type trope, which was fun

The style of this audiobook felt like an old fashioned fairy tale or folklore story. I’m not sure if it was the narration or writing but I was so surprised to discover it was released in 2019. It brought about a nostalgia that reminded me of the short stories I used to read at bedtime as a kid. Although it’s only a novella, it’s very atmospheric with cottage core, enchanted forest and green magic vibes.

I appreciated how normalised the queer flirting and romantic interest was. Can hardly be called romance really though, it was so tame, proper and restrained.

This is the first part of the Greenhollow duology, both included in the Audible Plus catalogue. It was an ideal pick for my first Taurus season themed read.

Too slow and boring for me. A nice mellow read, if you like that sort of thing. I may finish someday, but for now I don't plan to pick it back up.

A very moving piece of folklore, I could have easily read another 300 pages. Not dark enough to be gothic but with beautiful prose and atmosphere it really swept me away.
