and yes, i can say at some points it felt as though there was unnecessary details or pieces in chapters that were definitely not needed ( like that part in a chapter about the jenny girl charlie knew, kind of unnecessary to me ) some parts did drag and i was like alright get to the point lol but i loved the story!
i also saw some reviews here of people saying once charlie enters empis it got boring and they liked the beginning better but i completely disagree. the whole point of this story was about the other world, the world under the well and it was so fascinating to me. again, i get it not being everyone’s cup of tea but don’t pick up a book literally called fairy tale and expect a normal story about a teenager and a dog.

I enjoyed the straightforward and clear writing. Apart from this point, I really struggled to make progress. The building of the story is incredibly slow. The first third of the book is made with vague foreshadowing and the presentation of the life of an ordinary teenager. The ableism of the fairytale part was frankly exhausting. I don't recommend it to any disabled people.
Graphic: Fatphobia, Ableism, and Body horror
Moderate: Xenophobia

Charlie was such a good kid. I kept thinking of that in the beginning as he took care of Howard. He is not a Disney Prince but he has a good heart and knows how to take care of business.
Radar… I love her. King knows how to write dogs. I just kept thinking of the old girl German Shepard my mom has and the scenes with Radar really tugged at my heartstrings.
As well, the side characters had such good dialogue and personality. I really loved the loving relationship Charlie had with his dad.
I wasn’t too keen on the fairy tale Hunger Games at the latter half of the book since I preferred the first half better. But it was still enjoyable to see Charlie become the prince Empis needed.
