4.5. Ghastly.

- modern murder meta-mystery
- potentially even better than the first book; poor ernest cunningham keeps finding himself in murderous situations
- perfect blend of campy and witty while tapping into the “locked room/train” trope
- subtle and not so subtle references to Christie and Conan Doyle were *chefs kiss*

Not a single likeable character, down to the narrator. The whole conceit of the book just comes off as unpleasant. I like books that break the fourth wall, but this one reads like someone smugly showing you how a very obvious magic trick was done.

Honestly, I love this style of writing so much. Ern is back with his Deadpool self-solving mysteries, breaking the 4th wall and following his rules of murders.

Though I am personally a little slow with connecting the dots, similar to the first one I had so much fun reading this. The cast was phenomenal and every character was so complex, truly a fun read with a good mystery.

Fun!

Also fun: I bought this in Denver’s Union Station and spent time reading it on Amtrak: on the California Zephyr, the Lake Shore Limited, and the Acela!
