this was a light, fast-paced mystery just like the first. i enjoyed the train setting and the setup of mystery writers being suspects, and the twists & turns made for an enjoyable page-turner. like book 1, ernie’s meta voice was fun, but at the same time, i think this narration style made it a little difficult to truly connect with the characters. still, it was fun to turn off my brain and be immersed in ernie’s world again!

Crime is not my genre of choice but I did find the first Ernest Cunningham book to be a fun romp.
This one wasn’t quite as solid in my opinion. The pacing was a lot slower, the characters weren’t as interesting, and I also didn’t find it quite as funny.
Still a good read, just not a stand out in any sense.
