This book started off great. I was sucked into the plot. Selene’s trip and releasing of Memnon was intriguing. However, it seemed to go downhill from there. Memnon is obsessed with his “soul mate” and is desperate for Selene to regain her memories. He does a TERRIBLE job of endearing himself to her though. He wants his revenge for being stuck in a tomb for so long. I get it. But the notebooks and his actions at the ball were pretty irredeemable in my opinion. They were callous, especially for someone who supposedly loves his soul mate.
Selene’s actions around Memnon are equally as bad. She hates him, loathes him, but is attracted to him and becomes a pliable puddle in his presence. Girl has no backbone. She has good qualities though. She is determined, independent, loyal, and fiercely protective of others.
I did enjoy her familiar, Nero, even though he doesn’t do much in this first book. Selene’s best friend, Sybil, is my favorite character and honestly, the werewolf should have gotten the girl.
I’m going to read the next book to find out how this all plays out, because the ending is a big cliffhanger. I’m very curious to see how the author tries to develop the relationship between Selene and Memnon, or if he does something major to redeem himself.

I enjoyed this book so much. I devoured it. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. This rides the very edge of what I'm willing to accept from a love interest to another in terms of bad behavior, and I like it.

‘Bewitched’ by Laura Thalassa casts a spell of dark enchantment and thrilling suspense, wrapping you in a world where magic is a double-edged sword and love is as complex as the spells woven by its characters. Selene Bowers, our charming yet troubled protagonist, embarks on a journey to the prestigious Henbane Coven, only to find her life entwined with Memnon the Cursed, a figure shrouded in mystery and darkness.

Selene's magical abilities, which come at the cost of her memories, create a unique and poignant struggle. Every use of her powers is a gamble, making each scene where magic is wielded a heart-wrenching experience. The intricate blend of magic, memory, and emotion Thalassa blends is nothing short of mesmerizing, propelling the narrative with an intensity that grips you from the first page.

Memnon, the brooding anti-hero, is a character that defies easy categorization. Dark, intense, and enigmatic, he challenges both Selene and the reader’s perceptions, balancing on the fine line between villain and victim. Their relationship, a mysterious and a slow-burning romance, is the beating heart of the story, as it oscillates between tension, passion, and deep emotional complexity.

The world of ‘Bewitched’ is richly imagined, combining a modern times witch academia with the allure of ancient curses and shadowy pasts. Thalassa’s writing style, both lyrical and sharp, sets the perfect tone for this gothic fantasy, immersing you in an atmosphere that is as dark as it is enchanting.

Despite its darker elements, the book is infused with moments of humor and wit, primarily through Selene's lively personality and her interactions with a diverse cast of paranormal beings. The novel’s pace is brisk, ensuring a thrilling read, yet it never sacrifices the depth of its characters or the intricacy of its world-building.

Thank you to Laura Thalassa for the ARC!
