I've only read volume one so i'm guessing this is about a quarter of the series Pretty Deadly, but personally this story was just not for me. When I heard this book was a western, feminist, and with surrealistic elements I was really excited but just felt let down after finishing volume one. The artwork is gorgeous, but the pacing just felt all over the place. Lots of characters and I couldn't understand their exact motives, had they been introduced in other volumes and played a deeper purpose then I would understand. But for a first volume? Probably not the best choice. If you were to ask me "what was this book about" i would have no clue what to tell you sadly. I'd love to give it a second chance and see if I can understand the vision, but as of right now, Pretty Deadly will be a bit arms-distance for me.

This comic has some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen, but it is one that requires the reader to slow down and take their time going through each panel.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the writing in this one, it really felt like it needed a bit more of a background than what it had. Some characters were very difficult to understand who they were and what their motivations are. Others were clearly a character that is well known throughout various mythologies (Death for example), which made me try to guess which story it was trying to tell (my guess for a while was Orpheus and Eurydice but that wasn't quite right).
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys Western style stories with some horror and mythological aspects with beautiful art, but do know that the story isn't a fully fleshed out as I would have liked.
