i’m so incredibly happy i finally read loveless. this one was my first book with an aro-ace mc and i’m very grateful for that because i needed it.
i don’t know how to put my thoughts into words but it was a big relief to read georgia’s thoughts about sex and how alone she felt with everything but also how she questioned if some of her thoughts were even related to her being ace because same!!
i appreciate the setting - very glad to read more books where the characters are in university because the world is missing more of that. i also appreciate all the other characters. they all played such an important part in the story and i was able to relate to most of them at least the tiniest bit.
i could list all the things i appreciate about each of them but i’m gonna leave it at that. this also protected me from falling into a reading slump so yay to that!!

“Give your friendships the magic you would give a romance. Because they're just as important. Actually, for us, they're way more important.”

First of all, I recommend that you read the reviews from Maëlys & Lea . They are own-voices reviewers. They have valid points on why this book is hurtful to some people. They also explained the things I didn't like about the book very well.

“I've learnt some Things. Like the way friendship can be just as intense, beautiful and endless as romance. Like the way there's love everywhere around me - there's love for my friends, there's love for my paintings, there's love for myself.”

I have read 5 Alice Oseman books so far. I have always felt them like a safe place, without prejudice, full of positivity and love, where diversity and friendship are celebrated. However, this book did not feel like that.

Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day.

As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight.

But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever.

Is she destined to remain loveless? Or has she been looking for the wrong thing all along?

“There were never any romantic feelings between Pip, Jason and me. But what we did have -afriendship of many years- was just as strong as that, I think. Stronger, maybe than a lot of couples I knew.”

Georgia ends up hurting her two best friends in her journey to discover her sexuality. She uses Josh to experiment with her sexuality and her feelings, knowing that he has feelings for her. She also kisses Rooney, knowing that her friend is entirely in love with Rooney.

Georgia is a horrible friend. She does not take responsibility for her actions or is had truly consequences for them either. She never apologizes for the problems she has caused.

She is also judging others for having sex. Especially her roommate, Rooney. She is a pansexual character, and Georgia is always judging her for going out and enjoying casual sex.

Anyway, the book was interesting. I wish we could hang out more with Sunil and Ellie. I did enjoy all the Shakespeare society thing.

I LOVED this ode to friendship-love. I agree with the message wholeheartedly although I'm not aromantic or asexual. Life is just as fulfilling with loving friendships as it is with a partner. So this was a great book for me and I think it has a great message for everyone, old and especially young! The narrator was wonderful!

This was PERSONAL, my word! 😭 Georgia is a bit too close to home! I cried throughout this. I want what Georgia and Rooney have. 10/10

really wanted to love this but i just.. didnt? i think it was the writing style, the tone felt of immature to me which took away from the reading experience and i was never really fuly invested
pip and rooney >>>
i am glad to have read it though bc you dont find many books about this and the platonic love explorations were quite heartwarming
