I don’t think I ever felt so seen like this. Like omg, Georgia, yes I love fanfic too but the idea of romance irl? No, not for me. At least it seems very unlikely to happen
I 110% recommend it to anyone who resonated with the blurb, it’s such a good book with aromantic asexual representation.
Also, I found a playlist of a fanmade audiobook till the end of Part 2 - High Standards chapter (page 87). I didn’t listen to it but it's free so…

PoV: Main character (Georgia)
Focus: Romantic & Sexual Orientation/Identity, Friendship, Self-discovery

Probably spoilers/could give bias:
the plot is nothing new, but
it's interesting for the aroace (aromantic and asexual) perspective. I heard from the ace community that it has good representation. If this is one way of what it means to be ace, then it seems validating and makes you feel seen and heard. Though I can see why some people think it is more aro than ace. I think it's a good intro for the aroace perspective, but it is just one perspective, not all. Since, like I hear, it is a spectrum.

The plot is spearheaded by Rooney. I didn't think she'll be a major part of the book at 1st TBH, but it made sense. Maybe it was written that way bc that's what Georgia first felt too. Even if the main character is kinda passive, the writing is still very interesting. Her thoughts, emotions, etc. It gives a new perspective.
The characters seem realistic in a way that you feel like you can pass by them on the streets. The average day-to-day person.
I wish I could know more about Sunil and Jess though. I also found Georgia's cousin interesting.
Warning for some people, the short story at the end of the book could be not for some since it has sexually explicit content. It is nice that there are aro ace resources at the back. I have only checked the AVEN one and thought it was really helpful in explaining some things :)

I laughed, liked/loved a lot of parts and lines from the book, and found some parts sad too. Sometimes it brings up sad memories. I found it a light and heartwarming read majority of the time still. I was surprised at how thick the book was at first, but I found it such a page turner :DD When I open the book, I feel immediate immersion. I think I annotated the entire book lol. I also loved the friendship topics of this book. Friendship goals. I wish everyone thought like that too. I would recommend this book to people so that they can understand asexuals more. ^^

I really loved this book! I loved the story of the platonic love and the last scene in Part Four I had to take a picture of a show to my best friend because it is so utterly beautiful. I do feel like there were a few parts (one specifically) that were not used to their full potential. Specifically, Sunil goes by he/they pronouns but everyone exclusively uses “he” for the duration of the story, even Georgia. It would’ve been nice to see, even in the prose, Georgia use the pronoun “they” when referring to Sunil. I found that very distracting for the whole plot because it almost seemed like a throw in blink and you’ll miss it reference to Sunil’s pronouns. Other than that it was a fantastic story!

Another brilliant book from Alice Oseman. Moving away from the highschool setting, we now get a look in to uni life which was nice as it is something that isn't often explored but is such a specific and important time. It is also a good setting for coming of age/lgbtq coming out stories as there is a sudden sense of freedom and exposure to all sorts of new people and experiences. This book takes advantage of those to tell its story in a way a highschool setting couldn't. It was very informative about the aroace experience so is good if that is something you don't know much about. If you are aro or ace it will probably be very relatable (I'm not aroace so I can't say for sure) and is good representation for an often overlooked group. It was more fun and lighthearted than some of Alice's other work which was a nice change.
But as a book I felt it dragged a little, and the whole plot is based around those incredibly annoying miscommunications that have you screaming "JUST TELL HER!!!" at the page. This whole book could have been solved sooo much earlier if
Georgia had just told Pip that Rooney had feelings for her or vice versa instead of letting them get mad at upset with each other. Georgia knew Rooney liked Pip from about half way through and yet they don't finally confess to each other until right at the end. It was infuriating!
I also wasn't a fan of the chapters having names instead of numbers. It just seemed a little pointless and I much prefer the way it has been done in Alice's other books.
Overall it was a good book but it just didn't have the same spark for me as some of Alice's other work.
Also as a 3rd year university student myself, how Sunil found the time for Pride Soc, Orchestra and Shakespeare is beyond me. I can barely handle my regular coursework let alone all that!

I was really excited when this came in at the library. And after reading it, I really don’t know how to feel.

Read for the Read Harder 2022 prompt: Read a book with an asexual and/or aromantic main character.

I think that this was a good book. I think that it was also incredibly British, which was on one hand very fun, and an interesting look into British university culture, but on the other hand a little concerning I mean do y’all really have a drinking culture like that?? How are you still alive?!

I think I enjoyed it. Honestly, the self loathing was incredibly triggering and hard to read. I felt very uncomfortable for a lot of the book. But I liked the characters, they felt very realistic, I loved the growth. And I loved aroace rep!

I think that the intended audience for this one is probably amato allo folks and I guess that’s fine I dunno. Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about this one.

3.5 stars?

the beginning was a lot less interesting to me than the middle or ending, but it got more exciting and by the end there were some parts that really stood out and meant a lot to me <33
