This was a fine read. A trope filled sappy romance with a side of fantasy. The writing was pretty good, the plot and world building so so. I would say it’s a book to read when you need scratch a YA itch with a reasonably sized story.

Below I’ve mentioned some specific negatives about this story, but I would still put this book as a 3 star.

The main character is quite slow on the uptake, she doesn’t piece together even the most obvious clues. This is as odds with the characterization we’re told that she has grown up a tracker and cunning.
She also acts like every revelation is mind boggling when we’ve know for a while and the revelation is not that big.

The love story is overly soppy. Britta is obsessed with the guy’s smell to a weird degree, she acts like it’s incredibly overpowering even when he hasn’t bathed in a week. The dialogue between them was also bit silly at times.

Warning that there is quite a lot of rape threats and sexual harassment from one character. CC No rape happens, and it’s not explicit, but be aware.
