This was not good but I couldn’t put it down?? And I have a lot to say.

I feel like fans of Lauren Asher would like this book. The story was fast and fun and there was lots of tension, it just wasn’t very well written or put together.

This could’ve been a solid 3 star read if not for some prominent issues (for me).

The writing was immature, repetitive, and just not very good. I’ve never read the words “shoulder check” in reference to driving so many times. It was also a tad too cheesy. The weird wording definitely took me out of the story. Petal is an awful nickname. And the pacing was off.

This book had fatphobia galore; the negative self body talk really fucking sucked and took me out of the story every time it was completely unnecessary and irrelevant. Also a bit classist sometimes, more so than other books like this.

I also do not believe the author really knew what they were writing about, which I feel like I should’ve expected, but it took me out of the story as well.

Super easy but emotional read, and the spice is definitely there (even though it’s more tame than the beginning would lead you to believe, see previous paragraph).

And yet, I think I might continue on in the series.

CW: fatphobia, parental death, physical and emotional abuse, car crash
