I initially rated this one only 4 stars, but considering it is one of the books I think about most often, it has to get bumped up to 5 stars. This is absolutely one of the most poignant books I’ve ever read. The stories haunt me. It is fiction, but it’s also so real, and these atrocities so easily could be stories of real people. If I had to recommend one book by a Palestinian author it would be this one. If I had to recommend one novella period it would be this one. Absolutely blew me away with its insights into human character, both the lows and the highs. It sheds light on how connected people are, even throughout history, and how the history of oppression just keeps repeating itself. Absolutely incredible.

”sometimes it’s inevitable for the past to be forgotten, especially if the present is no less horrific.”

harrowing - there is no such thing as a "two state solution" here; the only
just solution is one where palestine is free utterly and totally - from settler colonialists of any kind.

Shame of the Frankfurt Book Festival and the book community at large for the decision to go back on Adania Shibli's promised recognition, especially at such a critical time in history.

Down with settler colonialism and its need for death.
