I heard this book is for opening your eyes, to see how little kind Actions can Change the world.
But for me it was more a self reflection of a woman, nothing more.
There are two life stories - the one of Laura Schroff and of course Maurice one.
The Goal is to Combine them, to Show why this relationship is Special and, maybe, to Show that everyone can help each other.
Don't get me wrong, I would like the message, the book just didn't transport it for me.
The whole time it felt like Laura just try to explain her view to the world.
Why SHE thinks this and feels that.
"I didn't knew that..." "I realized..." This book read like a way for the author to process what happened in her life.
I know other like books like this, but I don't get why this book is important for me, personally, since it was more about what's important for the author and not more.
Additionally the writing is bad. I know, we're not speaking about a professional author, she didn't wrote this book because being an author is her Goal.
But every book published through a Publisher house get checked and edited and so on.
Maybe it's only the german translation that sucks, I don't know.
The only Thing I know is, that the structure of the text and sentences wasn't good, so reading wasn't enjoyable.
(You know my sense for german grammar sucks, but still I had Problems with reading that.
I also know my English sucks too, thank you very much.)
Last Thing on top why I think I didn't like the book is, because it reminded me of "Blind Side".
I liked the movie and the Story worked much better for me. Maybe the book hadn't been so bad, if I didn't have the comparism.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the development of the relationship between Laura and Maurice. I have a hard toe “rating” someone’s personal story. I’m sure it wasn’t meant this way, but it almost felt like the author was touting her own horn. I think this story would have been even more impactful told by Maurice himself, or written in a duel narrative.

I'm so glad I finally got to this title in my to-read basket - it's one of those books you don't want to put down until it's finished. Laura when confronted by an 11 year old panhandler instead of ignoring him or at best giving him some loose change, asked the young Maurice to lunch at McDonalds. This was the start of a friendship that was to impact both their lives long term.
I thought that Laura was going to be some near-perfect rich woman doing a good deed (not that there's anything wrong with that) but turns out she herself came from modest means and an abusive family. Although she couldn't comprehend the poverty and drugs of Maurice's life, she did understand that he deeply valued the consistency she provided in his life.

This is an amazing story! Everyone needs to read this in my opinion!
