Kate Atkinson is one of my favourite authors but I struggled to get into this short story collection. The void was such a strong start and then I struggled with the second story and took a while to finish the book. Because the stories are connected, I think you need to read the stories back to back to understand the connections. I kept having to go back and figure it out, maybe it would need a re-read for me. Possibly read it at the wrong time.

If this wasn't part of a book challenge I'm participating in I wouldn't have finished. The stories were mostly all uninteresting backstory with the interesting part happening right at the end. Most had something taboo just for shock factor too, which is pretty lazy imo. Some topics deserve tact. The pedophile porno in one of the later stories really made me hate this book. It was unnecessary. There was one interesting story at the very end of the book, so at least there was a small reward for making it that far. But overall this book just got worse as I kept reading. One star because the stories being weaved together was well done.
