1/2 - ciężka decyzja. 1 za strasznie złą perspektywę białego menszczyzny. 2 za naprawdę ciekawe miejscami opisy tej wyprawy. Słowem klucz jest jednak „miejscami”. Jednak każdy, kto siedzi w tematyce powinien się zapoznać z tą książką. Chyba. Nie jest to męka, ale też nie jest to literatura wysokich lotów.

Slow burn to an intense ending. Amazing to read what the group was able to accomplish with such limited equipment (such determination and grit), but doesn't age particularly well. Still a great read if you are interested in climbing/mountaineering - Herzog's love of the mountains is beautifully told and highly relatable.

Wow, these mountaineers back in the day are hardcore.

I wish I'd read this a little sooner in my Nepal trip, so that I might have recognised some more of the places I visited.

A bunch of racists from France climb the Annapurna on their first attempt, while being carried on the shoulders of the natives. Oh joy.

It was a bit painful to read. I read the English translation (I'm French) and I honestly don't think it is very good - I felt a lot of "french-cisms", basically translating word for word in some cases.

The actual climb & what they achieved is truly amazing, but I didn't feel a rhythm to the book - a lot of painful descriptions, that don't even help the reader picture what's going on. Unlike other books I've read, I didn't feel any emotion when they got to the top.
The only exciting part was really the assault & the descent.

Tried to read it, decided it was not compelling enough to bother finishing considering the number of books that I have waiting for my attention. I don't feel like I should get credit for marking this as "read" but I tried
