Despite my terminal adulthood the fables in the Jungle Book are quite enjoyable. Since these are fables and the characters are archetypes, the characters are simple, and as simple archetypes I think they deliver the morals of the fables well.

Even with the tinge of imperialism throughout the story, I do enjoy reading these derivations of Indian tales and hopefully can find more of that.

The chapters having accompanying songs is delightful and something I'd like to try singing to children someday.

Since this is a children's book the language might wind up being difficult for them to follow. The formal and archaic 'thou' and 'thy' isn't inappropriate, just a bit of a barrier to modern readers, but I don't know to what extent until I try.

I'd never read The Jungle Book before, and I didn't expect it to be multiple short stories, but I thoroughly enjoyed them all! They're very quick reads, well written, and fun. I especially liked the story about the Mongoose.

Super well-written and entertaining book. Got a lot more than just enjoyment out of this book; taking an interesting perspective on man’s relationship with nature. Also a lot different to the Disney story, which was a pleasant surprise - much more adult and a lot more lessons drawn from it. Kipling’s writing is magnificent. Just such an easy read. Giving this a strong 4.

I had no idea that this book is actually a series of mini tales. Not at all what I expected, but it was nice to experience this classic.

so fun fact! did you know that the classic novel "the jungle book" isn't actually a single fairytale about a strange boy named mowgli that been raised in the jungle but made of multiple fairytales and jungle stories about savage wild beasts and animals located in india, well sure didn't

with that being said, i got really sad when it went down hill for me as i moved on passed the Mowgli story and went to the other animals stories, im a person who loves fairytales so i was really excited to see what else the book has to offer but they just didn't do it for me and the Mowgli one stayed by far the superious story in the book

in concluion the rating is due to the other stories dragging the book at the end because although it had powerful language with incrediable characters, the end ruined it for me

ps: screw you disney for ruining the Mowgli character and making him a child that relies on the pack way too much, he GREW up in the jungle so it makes sense for him to have a thick skin, with sass and humour that makes you laugh out loud and astonishing courage, not the bland good-for-nothing child that i remember from the movies

I love Rudyard Kipling as a storyteller. The only fault I have with this book is that it is a collection of short stories. Short stories I can handle, but short stories that continuously change characters, settings and themes are a little bit distracting for me. Still a great read, just not exactly what I had in mind.

I listened to an audio book of this and hated the narrator. I might reread this one day, but for now it's a 2 star.
