As I was reading this kid's literary mystery I knew that the author had to have been inspired by Bookcrossing. I was right, the author does an acknowledgement section at the end where she talks about all of her inspirations for the book. I didn't know that Edgar Allan Poe was a fan of codes and ciphers, that's pretty cool!

A fun middle grade story. Reminded me a bit of Mr. Lemoncello, except with older kids and secret codes.

The audio narrator did a lot of voices, but felt a little shrill.

Middle reader fans of codes, puzzles and good stories will enjoy this fun read. Twelve-year-old Emily and her family have just moved to San Francisco as the next step in her parent's quest to live in all 50 states. Emily is a fan of a web game called Book Scavenger - where players hide books and post clues to their whereabouts (think geocaching for books). The creator of Book Scavenger is about to reveal a brand new quest when he is mugged and the game goes awry. Emily and her new friend James have a mystery to solve while learning a thing or two about friendship along the way.

I liked it. Was fun and loved the premise of the book hunts. Nothing spectacular, but fun.
