Wow. I just bawled my eyes out with the last few chapters.
I should've known. The subject of death always makes me cry.

A beautiful and heartbreaking novel. The last few pages were devastating and truly brought tears to my eyes! I'm not usually a big historical fiction reader but as I'm soon to see the new stage production of The Book Thief and after loving the film I thought it was about time I delved into this.
I am genuinely glad I did pick this up as it has taken a firm grip on my heart and I'm not sure if or when it will let go. A sensational read for anyone who loves books and words and the power they hold in this world, especially when something so profound is happening such as a war.
I urge you to consider giving this a chance.

this book is so devastatingly beautiful. there are some slower parts but you get to learn so much more about the characters and begin to fall in love with them.

I should’ve read this a decade sooner, but now that I’ve finally gotten to it, I absolutely love this story. It’s so beautifully haunting. The way you slowly discover who the narrator truly is and the role he plays in Liesel’s life is so well done. WWII books are often over-done, but this one was so unique in both its perspective and plot that it stands out above the rest.
