Beautifully written, if a bit meandering at times. I found the first half stronger than the conclusion, but still well worth it. My complete lack of knowledge about French history and geography let me down in parts, but that's hardly Blakemore's fault.

this is one of the stranger books i’ve read. it was strange and slightly gothic feeling? i enjoyed it but felt it was a little too long and slow. overall it was interesting.
