3.5 stars rounded down because there was not NEARLY enough Jude and Cardan content!!!!! (totally not valid, but also valid?)

I did really admire Wren and the reveals throughout the book, but I thought it was just a bit too slow for me.

3/5 stars. Excellent writing, I was a bit confused with the world building and characters. It felt like there was other things I should have known when I started reading it, like this is the first book in this duo but is there other books I was supposed to read first??

I do like the style of writing though and will look for more by this author. But I didn’t feel super invested in this story I think mostly because of the confusion I was feeling trying to sink into this world.

Meh I thought this was mid. I liked seeing older Oak and Wren. I just fail to see the purpose of thr whole book. Well thats a lie I get it but it was just them travelling for the whole thing. I guess its a cozy fanatasy more so than having high stakes until the end when Wren realized whos heart she had. I kind of love the ending though where Wren becomes the villain. She believes that she is just a monster because of how she was made and I cant believe she put the bridle on Oak.

Review: The Stolen Heir by Holly Black

Quotes: "It is hard to explain the savagry of hope."

"No one in chains could ever truly love you."

"Fear is not love, but it can appear much the same.
So too, power."

Review: Picking up 8 years after The Queen of Nothing with different POV. Suren is the main character in this. And I have to say, I really liked her. I thought she had tenacity and toughness that was easy to root for. Seeing the world through her eyes gave some perspective on  Elfhame. Also, I thought it was cool to see Oak older now.
The settings feel familiar but it's entirely different adventure this time around. The ending I quite liked as well. And has made me excited to read part two of this doulogy.
For fans of the original Cruel Prince trilogy, you should definitely read this.
I give it 4.25 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks for reading! ✨️

Despite the 2 stars, this is such a vast improvement over the Folk of the Air Trilogy. Suren and Oak are much more compelling than the entire previous cast together. My big complaint here is that the story felt meaningless and didn't go anywhere for me. Two of the best modern YA characters in service to what felt like a nothingball of a story. I'll check out book 2 next year to see how it ends though.
