Started it confused, finished it confused. It has really beautiful language and vivid moments, but it was incredibly hard to follow at times. Would probably need to reread to grasp it fully

An absorbing and nauseating exploration of the intersection of race and mental health. Following a mixed woman who moves to Botswana from South Africa with her young child, this novel brings the reader right into the mind of someone’s isolation and hardship induced psychosis. This book provides a unique insight and has left me thinking about it long after I finished it.

This book portrays how hard it is to live with a mental illness so well. The main character, Elizabeth, is a mixed race woman who has recently moved to Botswana with her son. She hallucinates, and talks to people who don't really exist, but they become a very important part of her life. I felt confused when Elizabeth did, and clear in what was going on when she did, and that made this such a powerful book.
