Very enjoyable and fluent read. Didn't expect what was coming. Wrapped up nicely at the end as well... Would have loved to know more about Ruby's family history though. Also, my book is finished and my holiday is not, which forms a problem. Damn :)

This was an easy read, not my normal genre so hard to say if it's best in class.

I think Ruby May was a little naive and I also felt that as someone who was purportedly a fast learner she took a long time to work out that Mr England was a bit of a dick.

Also what was that weird bit with him making her put him to bed. Creepy.

A bit scatty in parts, like the author wasn't sure who the focus was, but easy to read and entertaining in the most part.

Ending was good but felt it took a while for things to get going. Loved Ruby however.

A satisfactory novel (in the positive sense) that was easy to read but also fairly easy to forget. There were distant echoes of Jane Eyre and twisting tendrils of suspense which, all too often, withered without gratification. While it pulled on my gothic heartstrings at times, it was not dark enough for me. Won't be a re-read but I'll probably read more of Halls' work.

I absolutely loved this book and wish I could go back and read it for the first time all over again. Great characters, great descriptions of place that do nothing to slow the plot, and I liked the ending, definitely recommended.

Oh Stacey Halls, how you unravelled everything with that final paragraph

This book was excruciatingly slow. 300+ pages of the daily going ons of a nursemaid. All of the action/drama takes place in the last 100 pages, and it was a really big ‘who cares’ moment for me. There’s nothing wrong with the characters, but there’s nothing remarkable about any of them either. And the thriller-esque part was predictable.
