A really clever story - an inheritance that can only be claimed if Mickey undergoes therapy and not just with anyone but a specific therapist. Mickey's estranged father has died and she learns she has been left millions. However, there is a catch and at first it doesn't seem that complex but as she starts her therapy sessions, things get out of hand. A slow unspooling tale that explores families, division, addiction and loss. Thoroughly engaging.

This should be a book I love. It has all the things. Maybe I just had too high of expectations after seeing only glowing reviews.
I think if I was maybe in an earlier stage of life or going through what these characters were maybe I'd be interested? But the writing just isn't gripping enough to bring me there, it was bland and not detailed enough to have me drawn in.
I understand why people love this, but I didn't.
The characters all felt super similar despite everything, and I'm not just talking the sisters, the lawyer, the friends. Everyone was watered down to be the most therapized version and I just found everyone so boring. Daria and her cat were my favorite by far.
I did end up liking it overall, mostly because of Mickey, she had a lot of traits I enjoyed reading about, her struggles were interesting at least.
I also enjoyed how the sisters started and ended at completely different places, though it felt a little unrealistic.
It wasn't terrible, just forgettable. It was overly long, could have been so much shorter, it felt drawn out just to make a full novel rather than only important parts included.
