matthew goode made me read this; vibes of cozy, academic romance with supernatural set up nicely but didn't tie up in the same way; by the end, the characters were just explaining everything to the reader which is crazy for a long book to be doing (pls cut out half of the wine smelling scenes to save on word count); the questions on evolution and origin of magical creatures was intriguing

I ended up DNF this book. Go to around halfway through. The characters ran away from the plot after the 150 pages. I couldn’t stand reading page after page of horseback riding and rowing. Main character Diana had potential, but all that potential got thrown away once she met Matthew. Ugh

I just read A Discovery of Witches and absolutely loved it. Now, I feel like there is a hole in my heart. However, at the same time, I can say that this book filled up my soul. It does remind me a little of the Highlander series and there are echoes of Twilight--although there are significant differences. I am sad that I have to wait until 2012 for the next book to come out.
