I really wanted to love this book. It does start off promising - but it’s really the first 20% of the book and the last 20% of the book that are worth the read. This book should have been edited down significantly. My kindle said “12 hour reading time” and that is way too long for what this is. It’s no great romance, it’s not super thrilling and it really drags on. There’s way too much detail that’s not needed. That said, I did like the beginning and the end. And the aunt’s magical house! Truly I do adore that house.

Okay, to start off, I only gave this three stars instead of four because it was such a slow start and it took a long while to get to the main part of the plot. That being said, I truly loved this novel once it really got into it. I am eagerly awaiting the next book to come in because that cliff-hanger at the end made me want to continue reading instantly. I am always a sucker for a novel that leaves me wanting more!
Incredibly derivative of Twilight and The Historian.
Amazing. I watched the show first but the audiobook
In incredible. The narrator nails the different voices. I loved the extra detail from the book. Incredible.

Entertaining fun read but very traditionally romantic and hard to get fully invested
4.5 stars
I listened to the audiobook. It got off to a slow start, but I understand why the author took so long to develop the plot and characters, so I forgave her and kept going. There was A LOT in this book and I often had difficulty keeping up. I may have had an easier time if I’d read it instead and had taken time to deep dive into the historical bits.

I borrowed a friend’s copy of ADOW and have been whittling away at it since late October. I just finished it tonight and it was WAY better the second time around (reading rather than listening). Everything made so much more sense and I cannot wait to read the next book in the trilogy!

you know what, it's my fault for being literate. this book is both a toxic alpha omega man AND a trad wife's wet dream. i let the show lull me into a fall sense of security. miss. harkness when i catch you...
