I’m not going to lie, when I think back to this book I finished almost a month ago I just think how this was boring and it was not the masterpiece I was expecting, and that just makes me sad. It was a disappointment. I don’t even remember most of what happened, just that it was slow as fuck and didn’t go nowhere. When I finished it I thought I would give it 3 stars but I feel now that I was being generous, so 2 ⭐ for my rating.

Gosh I’m not even going to read my notes, I’m so tired with all the books I have to review that this is not worth it to make a well written review lol there’s hundred of those loving and hating this book already.

It just makes me so mad that I didn’t love this, that I felt like her “bisexuality” was not represented correctly and was just something the author added so she could add it to the sell speech, the fan art is so pretty and the narrator is amazing, but that didn’t save this book.

That “romance” she had with Henry? I did not feel it at all. And I hate that this Darkness was obsessed with her and wouldn’t let her in peace, it would’ve been sooo much more interesting to read about her falling in love with Luc but for real and if he was a bit different, but well. The ending was predictable too, I was just like “wait this is when I’m supposed to cry?”

this is definitely a no plot just vibes type of book and very slow paced so i can absolutely understand why so many people didn't enjoy this or even manage to get through it, HOWEVER i loved this. i am a sucker for pretty prose though and the prose was gorgeous in this book so i'm a little biased. most of the criticism for this book is warranted but this story and its characters really appealed to me. i wish we got more on addie's time in new orleans though, it seemed like it would have given some more insight into
her and luc's relationship + would've given luc more depth. it feels like we barely got to know him
.

it definitely could have been condensed just a little because "no plot just vibes" isn't much of an exaggeration and i'm not sure how it managed to be 500+ pages long but i can enjoy a slow book when i like the writing. the ending did feel slightly anticlimactic but it was more bittersweet than anything else to me. not sure if i would recommend this because the it really is slow but i definitely enjoyed this!!

It’s poetic, and heartbreaking, and inspiring, and I didn’t want it to ever end. A sweet unique read that I’ll cherish forever.

Beautifully written, but not my cup of tea. It’s a love letter to the arts, and New York, buried between the character’s self reflection on what makes existence worthwhile, tied together with a love story, that didn’t end quite as tragically as I thought it would.
I’d recommend this to the introspective romantic reader who likes flawed characters and literature.
