Such a delightful festive foray back into the Fairway Players. Their petty little battles over power amuse and delight while the building sense of dread of what will go wrong with the panto sustains the thriller aspect. Hallett remains a genius of the small innocuous clue and I thoroughly enjoy her mixed media format every time.
It’s a cute sequel of sorts to The Appeal, revisiting some of the characters that were previously introduced. The stakes weren’t as high, though, so the tension and intrigue that made The Appeal SO GOOD just wasn’t there for me in the same way. Still a very enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this epistolary style mystery. Remind me never to organise and direct a pantomime, it sounds like chaos! I enjoyed the wit.
This is my first introduction to Janice Hallett, so perhaps I move onto The Appeal, soon.

Picked this up bc I really enjoyed the Appeal, but this just felt kind of superfluous. Meh

I found this cozy Christmas murder mystery to be so inventive, fun, and entertaining. The Fairway Players theatre group is putting on a play when a dead body emerges from an old massive beanstalk prop. Lawyers Femi and Charlotte are tasked with figuring out who the dead body is and what happened.
The entire book is basically a collection of emails, text messages, news clippings, and police reports as gathered by the lawyers. I read and listened to the audiobook on this one and although the audiobook was well done, I think reading this one was a better format for this book due to the unique structure.
Overall, I loved the hilarious and snarky banter between characters. This provided a nice break among all the holiday romance I’ve been reading.
Thank you, @NetGalley and @AtriaBooks for the advanced copy of this book. I really enjoyed it.

2.5? I really liked "The Appeal", but have been disappointed by this author's next two books. I was hoping this would be a return to form. It's not bad, I did get a few chuckles here and there. And I do realize this is a novella and the mystery itself can't be all that deep, but the mysterious dead body wasn't mysterious at all. There were enough pages left after that reveal to make me hope for a clever enough twist that would save the entire story, and I guess you could say there was one, but it was exactly what I hoped that it wouldn't be. (way too obvious) So sadly, this was pretty forgettable over all.
