I’m not sure that I am the best intended audience for this book. It is translated from Malagasy into English, and I wonder if some of the literary techniques and language would be better in its original form. 

I did appreciate the Malagasy folklore that was mentioned because I know very little about the culture, but overall it was a difficult book to navigate for me.

I probably would have liked it better had I understood the lore. As it is it didn’t make a lot of sense and I really disliked the main character.

I got this book as a Goodreads Giveaway. I've tried twice to finish reading, but I just couldn't take it past the halfway point. I got bogged down by the complexities and having to backtrack often.

I'm sure there are some that will enjoy this book, but this one was not meant to be for me.
